Dear Snake,

A hard-to-control urge to fairness forces me
to comment on your statement of:

"Last we heard of Lorne, he was suggesting that
he could supplant this email list with a high
tech version of his own, in response to an
appeal by List owner Mark Bradakis for funds to
modernize the hardware of this list. (What
happened to the "cohesiveness of THIS list"?)."

As I understood it, Bradakis urgently emailed
ALL lists that his equipment was showing signs
of imminent failure and that he wanted to move
the key equipment to his garage from the
basement of the CompuSci building at the
University of Utah. He also required thousands
of dollars for replacements to stave off a
 possible mail List collapse.

I suggested that this List should discuss
options and I transmitted my club's offer of
funding one of the many Internet mail list
companies in the U.S. to run the List for us
all. I had assumed that the List's cohesiveness, after all, was about people
not
 equipment.

This unfortunate encouragement for dialogue
inexplicably offended some...and how it could have been interpreted as "Lorne
supplanting" anything is inane nonsense.

In any event, presumably Mark has received the
thousands necessary for the new 'puters,
presumably he has moved all the stuff to the
garage, the List still sends out most emails to
most Listers (saving Fred K) and the club has
saved the $129.00 yearly that a mail list company would have charged for a
bullet-proof service.

Lorne
