Anyone ever heard of "flame hardning" valve seats in cast iron?
Local machine shop told me Chevy iron heads all have a flame-hardned seat- not
an insert but some sort of local treatment of the seat area.

I am putting stainless valves in a 100E racing engine and it seems that this
would be a neat thing to do. Deck thickness is a problem with these engines as
most inserts seem to be 1/4 to 3/8" deep. Although I have not experienced any
unleaded gas problems- I don't want to either!

By the by... for anyone with a 100E in their Mog- I canted the valves (made
new guides) and was able to get 1 1/4" exhaust valves (1.05" stock). Neat
trick. VW 1600 valves have .312 stems- Morgan .310. Bit of lathe work makes
'em fit.

Also- there are some neat Phosphor-bronze inserts available to renew old
guides. Local NAPA fits them- also a kit is available from Manley. Good for TR
engines also.

Also- Pertronix makes their neat little electronic ignition module in a
positive-ground configuration if you decide to upgrade a pos-gnd car.
