I am a big fan of the aftermarket pump. Not knowing the real history of my
cars I always added a switched cube pump to the gas line. When the
inevitable happened all I had to do was flip a switch.
In a fit of belt and suspenders I replaced the defective SUs with another
cube pump. Not really necessary, but I won't be stopped by a defective pump.
Be sure you get the low pressure version, about three lbs.
This may be a reaction to the time I nearly got stranded on a rural road in
an XK140. Knowing that the pump was under the passenger side door I had my
wife slam her door every time the car faltered. When we got to our
destination I had the pump replaced with a Bendix electric.
