The best way to clean aluminum is a polish called Semi-Chrome. It is a fine
jewelers rouge. You might want to start with a polishing compund that is a
little more course and work out the deep scratches. When you finish with the
Semi-chrome it will look like chrome. A high speed buffer will speed up the
process but still requires lots of elbow grease. Works great on dashpots and
aluminum intake manifolds. I usually buy mine at a motorcycle shop. It also
works great on taking scratches out of plastic headlight covers and plastic
convertible top windows.
