Greetings All,
Just my two cents worth.
A 71 BGT would be a desireable choice, as last was the last year before the
compression ratio was reduced.
Regarding the C, we had two in the family back in the 70s. Both tourers, a 69
manual with o/d and a 68 automatic. The 69 was always enjoyable to drive.
Yes, it did understeer more than a B does but it would go around corners wery
well when you powered into the apex rather than use a lifted throttle.
Acceleration was much better, highway cruising and directional stability was
vastly
better than a B could offer, and unwary Triumphs would have their doors blown
off
with ease. The 68 was not as much fun to drive and it easily overheated in
Florida summers.
If one lived in a cooler clime, where top down driving is less important, I
think a CGT would be a wonderful choice if one's driving habits suited the
nature of the car. There have been a number of articles about Cs that have been
properly sorted (decent tires alone make a huge difference) that it is a shame
that BMC/BL did not and would not spend the money to make the great potential
of the C a reality.
They do have their weak points. The autos overheat in hot weather, the vacuum
boosters are expensive and troublesome, parts can be expensive and difficult
to obtain.
As you can tell, I like the C very much.
