Not sure. But you said it was a 45D, which should be off the intake. But 
then again, I'm just guessing.

No, you'll need the back plates. The little wire holders clip over the 
plates. The pieces you are using are the inner alloy backplate adapter
(Moss part  372-380).

You put the backplate in, then the adapter. The wire mesh, foam and 
plastic holder go over the adapter and inside the lip of the backplate.
The wire holder goes over that and clips around the backplate.

If you don't put the spacers in the engine mount, then you'll need to 
dent the wire mesh of the foam for the back carb to get around the brake
booster.
