It's worth mentioning that wax will typically get you the deepest-looking
finish, but that modern polymers come very close, and will protect for much
longer.  For most people, polymers are the best bet.

It's not the silicone itself, but rather that fact that most
silicone-containing products use oil-based carriers which cause the damage.
