I am in the process of doing my 70 MGB and had a similar problem.  I ended up 
cutting the sway bar link with a cut off wheel.  I also discovered that the 
bolts securing the swivel axles were rusted to the distance tubes and had to 
cut them also.  Good luck this is one of the most fun times you can have 
fixing your B
