Wow! Time flies. Yes I have some messages, but there are some things he
doesn't want to discuss publicly, and he has requested that I not relay all
of his messages.
I sent him a few books via snail mail in late January. Delivery time was
supposed to be 4 to 6 weeks. I haven't heard yet if they were received. I
have sent a recent inquiry. Will let you know.
Most recent discussion with him was about the bad oil leak fron the
engine. Some of his local helpful friends were discussing the possibility
of packing the crankshaft rear seal area with graphite thread. I haven't
heard the results of that either.
As a point of interest, Demis an electronics technician, so he had no
problem rewiring the entire car by hand and getting everything electrical
to work.
On the topic of shipping things to Cuba:
From the USA we can send letters, books and printed material to Cuba
via standard mail delivery methods, not to exceed 4 pounds per
package. But shipping of almost anything else is prohibited, especially
anything with any significant monetary value.
Other countries generally do not have the same shipping
restrictions. A friend in Newfoundland, Canada has offered to ship some
things to Demis by way of hand delivery on Cubana Airlines from Gander to
Havana. So far this appears to be the only practical proceedure for auto
parts. Demis thought that was a good idea, as he lives close to Havana
Airport and has some friends there who would receive the package for
him. I haven't been anxious to try that until I could verify that he at
least got the books I sent by snail mail. Still waiting to hear on that
point, but will let you know if/when I do.
