Dan "H" on 1500 and 1600 B series engines used on the MGA signified high compression, versus the lower compression used on cars sent to third world countries. It may also apply to the 1800 cc engine. All (?) MGAs to the US had H as part of the number series on the engine. A copy of the MGB manual I have indicates that the MGB had both high and low compression engines.
