It is my understanding that the gas pedal won't play a significnat role in
starting a car equipped with SU carbs, since the venturi is essentially
constant. When I first experimented with this on my '74 Midget, the only
result was that when the car finally started, it would rev extremely high.
In fact, close to the redlline, which I found disturbing, especially since
there was no opportunity for oil to have circulated inside the engine.

Is this correct? Would a car equipped with a Weber carburettor respond to
pumping the gas while starting?
