Variation is usually the effect of wear in the clevis pin and the bist it
connects together. It is 'self adjusting' in that it pushes the slave
cylinder back just far enough. Where a pull-off spring is fitted to give
clearance for a roller bearing release bearing there also has to be a stop
to prevent the slave getting pushed back in too far, which would make the
clutch engage near the floor.
