Since you've done your own changes for so long, this probably isn't the
case, but...

I had the same problem with my 72.  Turned out that either the DPO or DCO
(dumb current owner <g>) cross threaded the shaft, so the filter could be
screwed on two different ways:  One resulting in a good seal, one resulting
in a bad seal.  I've since replaced the mounting.
