My first thought, Rick, is that if your $27 special is really putting out 7
to 9lbs of pressure, you are looking for trouble! SUs, Zenith-Strombergs and
Weber 32-36 DGVs are all designed to work on no more than 3.5lbs of
pressure. Any more than that and the needle-and-seat float valves will not
work properly, the carb will flood, the engine will run rich (or worse),
etc.
There's nothing wrong with keeping the $27 special but be sure to put a
pressure regulator in line to cut the pressure back to 3 lbs.
