Fuel Pump Orientation 77MGB

And again,

      Got the fuel tank in today and the fuel pump too, but a question has
arisen.  Is there a 'correct' orientation for the SU pump in a 77MGB?  It can be
freely rotated in the rubber donut so that the hose fittings can be on either
side.  I realize that there is a very definite preference for inlet and outlet
but, other than for convenience, is there a preferred orintation?  TIA.
