Hello all,
Lately I've just been doing those odd jobs to the 'B while I try to
decide how to tackle the carbs. I've moved the battery to the trunk, (where
it is SECURELY tied down), painted the trunk, prepped the car for the
rollbar, and other little jobs.
But now, I see that my SU's might not be running for a simple reason. I
have a vacuum line misplaced. If you remember, I have the HIF-4's with all
stock emissions stuff in place. My question concerns the metal pipe that
forms what looks like a "handle", running from one carb to another. There
is a "T" connection over the rear carb, and that's where the problem lies.
What exactly is this metal pipe? My guess is that it's the fuel overflow
pipe? All indications show that this pipe should have a hose running from
the "T" fitting to the carbon canister. When I found this pipe the other
day, it was not connected to anything, arousing my suspicions that this may
have been causing my tuning woes. Without thinking, I ran the pipe to the
intake manifold. Then, the car wouldn't start. Had I caused a "vacuum
lock" of sorts to foul up the carbs? Final question: What should I do with
this pipe? (Remember when I said my emissions were intact? I lied - the
carbon canister is gone.) Should I plug the pipe, leave it in the intake,
or leave it open?
Any advice is appreciated, I'm giving the tuning hell tomorrow, so I'll
let the list know what gives.
