I can vouch for this.  I bought a non-OD cable, since I don't have 
overdrive, but it was too short, because I also don't have the right 
angle adaptors at the tranny or the gauge.  I got it to fit, but 
barely.  I had to route it up into the passenger compartment through 
the tranny dipstick access hole.  The next time, I just bought the OD 
cable, and the ends were the same.  It's just a little bit longer, 
and was a much better fit.
