Steve,
My 76 has A/C, but it's not connected and working right
now.  The compressor is the conventional belt-driven
type.  There is an under-dash part also (evaporator?)
and it goes behind the dash liner and below the glove
box.  It blows out of the standard vents on the
dash. 
I don't know much about a pre-68 though, so I don't know
if the unit would work in that situation.  I think they can
be found used though.
