Scott,
You probably have a blocked sump breather hose. That is the one which runs
from the sump to either the air cleaner or the carby. If that is blocked
then the sump pressure has nowhere else to go but out through the filler
cap and takes a mist of oil with it. However, your problem might be that
the piston rings have not bedded in properly and so pressure is getting
past them. A test of cylinder pressures should tell you this and if they
are low the only solution available to you without taking the engine apart
to re bed the rings is to give it a bit of a hammering up a steep hill.
Watch the temperatures and oil pressure but that might do it after you have
eliminated the possibility of blocked sump vent hoses.
