  The plating process is electrolytic, things are
plated by clipping them to a current source and
then they attract a few microns of chrome.

  I am not sure how this can be applied to plastic,
since it won't conduct the current.

  I am curious myself though how those "nicely chromed"
plastic bits are made. I guess it could be a spray,
but it seems like such a great job for even an
industrial spray system.
