Hi Eric,
 Carb cleaner is OK for SUs. Go ahead and use it. Getting them clean will
make both of them, and you, feel better.  By the way, if you disassemble
them, don't interchange the parts from one SU to the other.  The top
cover that you see and the piston inside are fitted together.
