Ignition light stays on

Hi, as you would have guessed the ignition light on my 57A is staying
on, I have been driving with it (short trips) but I realise I am on
borrowed time. So far the car is still starting, I have checked the
battery levels and the connections, I will try and test the generator
this evening but any ideas would help.
