Mysterious hose

I have been puutting in a new clutch in my 76 B.  I pulled the engine
and transmission and took the opportunity to paint and clean up all I
could..  Someone has stripped all the smog control equipmnent from this
engine. My question is:

There is a hose coming out of the backside of the ZS carberator
(pointing towards the driver).  It is right in the middle of the
carb,...where does it go???
