When the fault is apparent connect a voltmeter to the input lead (Brown White?)
and
the body of the solenoid. If you see 12v when trying to start the car then the
relay and wiring to the solenoid and the earthing of the motor/solenoid is OK.
Either the solenoid is not pulling in because of a broken winding (check with
an
ohm-meter or test lamp) or it is sticking. If you hear a clunk as it operates
but
still no starter it could be the heavy contact that supplies 12v to the actual
motor
or the motor itself. If there is no 12v at the solenoid then check the wiring
and
relay output (C1, Brown, always 12v. C2, Brown White, 12v when starting).
