As far as I am aware the bit that fails with either type of rod is the bolt or
stud.
The problem is that afterwards there is such a mess its difficult to know what
happened.
I had a big end bearing fail at about 4500 rpm in an 18V engine, the cap and
bolts distorted a little but nothing broke - fortunately.
