OK, I suck at diagnosing ignition problems (somebody correct me if my 
logic is way off) but here goes:
 First, by "missing", do you mean "knocking"/"pinging" or is it hesitating?
If it's knocking, consider this: Do you have a vacuum-advance on your 
distributor?  Might want to check for leaks/cracks.
If it's hesitating, and you have a carburetor, check your acceleration 
enrichment mechanism.  Heat can cause all kinds of issues with carbs, 
from mechanical binding/expansion.
If it's just one or two cylinders not firing, I don't know what to tell 
you (if it;s EFI, it's remotely possible that a intermittent injector 
short/open circuit could cause this)
Again, if I'm way off here, somebody correct me so I can learn from 
this, too.
