Certainly the outer half-shaft bearings are ball and not roller, and I think
the inner ones in the diff too. Less sure about the pinion bearings.

I had severe whining in my rear axle. The chap who fixed it charged
an arm and a leg saying the bearings were damaged. One he said had
been hammered in. I have now examined the offending bearing but it
is a normal bearing - not tapered
