Ford Rear-end question

Ok,
I hear people talk about the Ford 8", the Ford 8.8" and the Ford 9" 
pumpkins.
I know that the 8" and 9" are two different animals, but is the 8.8" a 
3rd and totaly different design, or is it another name for either the 8" 
or 9" models?
The list is awfully quiet.  I hope that means folks are out enjoying 
their LBC's on the open road.
