I have solved nearly all of my drivability issues with one fix. The only
thing that I haven't yet solved is my hot idle, but now that I have
everything else working correctly I think I can get the carb tuned correctly
and solve the idle problem and perhaps increase my gas mileage while I am at
it. I was reading my EPS manual and I read the part about the carb wanting
6psi fuel pressure and that low pressure would wreak havoc on carburetor
metering. At this point it occurred to me that when I bought a fuel pump I
bought the low pressure one 2-4 psi. Thankfully when the pump in my
roadster acted up, all I could find was the 4-6 and a pressure regulator. A
quick swap of the pumps and deletion of the regulator and all is well. I
didn't swap the points, but it doesn't appear that that will prove necessary
so I'll just hang onto them as spares.
Thanks everyone for sticking with me while I tried to work all of this out,
now its off to tune the thing up right. With the old pump the jetting
seemed erratic, as a change didn't always produce the desired results,
hopefully now that will get better.
