I'll take a stab at this.
1) if the mechanical fuel pump leaks it may dump fuel in the oil.
2) because the electric fuel pump pushes fuel from the rear of the car,
the fuel in the line is pressurized which reduces the possibility of
vapor lock.
3) maybe others on this list have more thoughts.
