In the last 10 or 12 years I have gone through several sets of headers on 3
different cars & this is my experience:

Early block huggers in mild steel, both from England & made in the US by
Kirk Racing all cracked from heat fatigue at the main juncture. Rewelding-
including TIG welding was only a temporary cure. I have over 250,000 miles
on a set of stainless steel block huggers from an unknown English
manufacturer with no problems & minimal discoloration. At twice the price of
mild steel, they are a bargain.

I have a set of RV8 style headers made by Kirk with about 45,000 miles on
them w2ith no problems. I had them coated at a local shop & the coating is
crap, so my advice on coating is spend a bit more & go to a name brand
coater such as HP unless you have real good references on a no name coater.

RV8 headers definitely lower the under hood temps, coated or not. Part is
due to design, part is because you open holes in the inner fenders that
increase air flow. Coating is a plus both in lowering temps & in appearance.

Rv8 headers also minimize or eliminate the steering shaft interference found
with block huggers.

I have a set of coated (silver) headers, 1 5/8" primaries on the work in
progress & am very pleased with the fit & coating. They are another set of
Kirk headers that D & D sold me already coated.
