The factory V8 manual quotes a 'normal' system pressure of 42psi and
an idling of 34psi - pretty terrifying. Mine runs at a shade under 40 at
about 2500 under all conditions, with a hot idle of about 18 at 900 rpm. If
I am stuck in traffic this gradually drops to about 12 at 800 when the fans
are running, then rises back to 18 after having been under way for a while -
proof of the oil cooler, I suppose, since the idle pressure doesn't vary
even when the water temp varies with the fans cutting in and out. A Police
V8 driver of many years experience has been quoted as saying "What hot idle
pressure?".
