AFAIK disc brakes have less braking power than drums in similar decent
conditions. The combination with servo braking systems makes the former more
powerful and the resistance to fading makes them superior when brakes get
hot, which can happen very often.

BTW, driving only with the rear brakes operative is much like driving with
no brakes at all. You can make the test by trying to brake with the so
called "emergency brake"....
