Good suggestion Sher, I have one but didn't think of it. I put a small hose
clamp around the tube and that gave the vice grips something to grap, then a
block of wood against the block and using the vice grips to lever with it
finally came out. Bent all to hell!! I annealed it, then happen to have some
brass rod of the proper diameter and pounded that through it. Then some
beating
of the tube against the flat of my vice and I finally got it pretty straight!
Whew!! Paint is drying now.
Thanks to all who made suggestions on this problem. Clearly when the tube
was pounded into the block, it was kinked at that point.
BTW, to remove brass rods from bonnet hinges, use a drift to expose a little
of the rod, then clamp your electric drill on the exposed end, rotate slowly
and it comes right out. Sometimes a little wd40 helps too. Re-insert the same
way.
Cheers
Terry
