You don't have to go to a vendor for effective fusing. It is easy to
add inline fuses in the right places for good protection. You can buy
pretty unobtrusive in line fuses today. I pulled the wiring diagram
to refresh my memory but the wiring on a TD is super simple.
A TD is going to have 1 (early 9 post regulators) or 2 (late 5 post
separate fuse box) brown wires coming off the starter switch. These
brown wires feed everything on the car (except the starter of course)
One of the brown wires goes to the fuse box (only one the late model)
and the other wire (all TDs) goes to the ampmeter. Put a 30 amp fuse
in the wire that leads to the ampmeter. A couple of bucks provides
the protection you need to prevent your harness from burning up.
Now if you want to add more fusing so you have separate systems you do
have several choices.
1) fuse the white (ignition) wirecoming out of the lighting & ignition
switch. 10 amp be ok.
2) fuse the red wire with a 20 amp, (parking, tail, lamp, panel lamps)
If you have fog lamps, put a 20 amp fuse on the red wire leading to
the fog lamp switch.
3) put a 20 amp fuse on the blue wire (headlamps)
This gives you all the protection you need for original wiring by only
adding 4 or 5 in line fuses. Easy to do and inexpensive. It is not
hard to add some separate relay systems if you add additional brighter
head lamps. You must do this or you'll burn up the ignition headlamp
switch.
Modifications can be effective and simple.
