Recently I prefaced a reply to a TABC list member who had a concern about his
regulator smoking after start-up with a dimly remembered explanation about how
smoke in the wires powers electrical components. Satch Carlson writes in the
September issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic car on this subject, including a
reasonably complete text of the "Joseph Lucas Theory of Smoke," and introduces
a hitherto obscure remedy for escaped smoke. The inside the back page column
is entitled "Smoking Along at the Speed of Dark" and includes this link to
what must be the Holy Grail for Lucas devotees: a genuine N.O.S. Lucas Smoke
