HI! Bob We had a 'stone' here 25 foot in diameter that came down the hill in the heavy rains and ended up in a street(the whole street) up by the foothills. Fortunately, no one was in the way. They couldn't find a way to move it so they blew it up. Now we have 'ministones' some were still too big to pick up.

Hi Bob,
I enjoy, possibly because I don't use them often, the non-decimal
English weights and measures. An American, though one whose ancesters had
a certain disagreement with George III, I anticipate with interest the
UK's future involvement with the EU.
Do you know the basis for the 'stone' weight? Is/was there a standard
stone at some time? Was there some relationship to something that
"everyone" knew or had, such as the inch = one's fore finger tip, foot =
one's foot length, fathom & span = one's arm spread, etc?
