Just for grins, check to see that you hooked up the battery correctly.  With 
an electrical system as simple as an old M.G., most things may function 
properly for a short period even with polarity reversed.  The regulator 
would probably be the first to go.  With luck (and thanks to your master 
disconnect!) no permanent damage will have been done.
