I had a cratering problem when welding some steel tubing today, TIG, straight
polarity, 1/16" thick
1" square tubing, nothing fancy. But, about 50% of my welds will have at least
one bubble hole, a
couple just bubbled and boiled and looked like swiss cheese. The rest of the
welds were perfect,
there doesn't seem to be a pattern. I was inside, so no wind either.
I found using a higher amperage helped (going from about 50 to 65amps), but it
only lessoned the
problem.
What could be causing this, bad tubing, bad gas, or...?
