Jonathan;

Ben's test with hydrogen bottles sure doesn't agree with an article that I
read in Design News years ago. To crash test some sort of vehicle, a 2000lb
block of concrete was propelled forward by a few big bottles of CO2.
Primacord was wrapped around fully-charged bottles and then detonated to let
the gas out suddenly. Just like a big rocket motor!

Maybe he only opened a valve on the tank?

mayf and list,

The hydrogen as you stated had been a top issue with one person that comes
to mind here in Denver, Ben Jordan. I talk to Ben a couples times a year and
he was an original builder of the Mountain States Automation Lakester, The
Boxscar.
He has done many tests with Hydrogen, he is very involved with hydrogen. He
is a top person on the subject. He recently ran a test of a hydrogen bottle
filled and knocked off the end, in a controlled enviroment at a test
facility in Denver, and the amount of forced produced by the bottle was
little to none to move a heavy object. Many people think of the Hindenberg
(Sp?) when they think of the hydrogen but you cannot really relate to
current day. The Hydrogen Powered Cobra ran out there World Finals I think
in 2000 or 2001 and reached I beleive in the mid 120's mph. This was by a
supplied Cobra by Carol Shelby.
I recall Ben talking about one of the rules for a hydrogen vehicle is that
it must be fueled out of the pits, beyond and away.
I beleive Ben Set a record at Bonneville, or ran a time only entrant in the
early 80's in a Abarth. I have pictures.
That comes to a good point what are the rules for running Hydrogen. I would
never run it. But I am curious as to what the rules are for it, like Mayf
has stated.
Anybody on the board have any more info.
