Been meaning to come back and throw in my two cents on this. Hope it helps.
I consider myself a budget racer in a big way.
My data acquisition equipment consists of sight, sound, touch, smell AND A
TACH.
The tach I chose is a VDO Extreme.

About the only thing it doesn't do is download or print.
It does, however do some things I believe the Autometer will not do.
It has a built-in shift light as well as an output for an external shift
light so it can be remotely mounted and viewed for playback later.
