OK, I still can't believe this but ...

I just got off the phone with Jay Leno! No s**t!

About 3 weeks ago, I sent him an e-mail through the Popular Mechanics
web-site asking them to pass on my message. I asked if he would be
interested in either partnering or working out a deal where he and I would
go racing at Bonneville on his helicopter engine motorcycle (I was hoping I
would drive).

I figured it would at least be fun to ask, and maybe I could weasel myself
into the red-hat club.

A few minutes ago, the phone rang ... "Hello Dana", "Yes" I said. "It's Jay
Leno" the voice on the other end of the phone said."

"Hmmmm", I thought. Then I remembered I had sent him an e-mail, and I
stopped to listen to hear if it sounded like him. After a minute I realized
it was him, and I kept pointing to the phone looking at my wife and jumping
up and down like a loony mouthing "It's Jay Leno! It's Jay Leno!"

Anyway, he was REALLY nice! and said he has a few other friends who race (or
go to) Bonneville (I wonder who ...), and they have already mentioned it,
and that he was really too busy working on all his other toys to go racing
(I heard wrenching in the background). I asked him how fast he thought it
would go given unlimited distance. He said it's gone 233. He also said he
had chewed up lots of tranny's (including a VW one ??), and he was working
on a fluid-coupling system to handle the torque.

The conversation lasted about 7 minutes, but it seemed way too short.

Just think, it could have been a voice message.

I guess I'll have to earn my red hat the hard way. Drat.

What a great guy, to call up an average Joe! My hat's off to you Jay.

Dana the average Joe.
