Unlike World of Speed where rooms are readily available and reasonable, the
weekend of World Finals is also THE DEER HUNT in Utah. Usually there's over
125,000 hunters out there looking for a big one.
It also means that there will be thousands of "Deer Widows" heading to
Wendover for a little fun. Meanwhile the old man (men) will be out sitting
around a small propane fired stove, freezing his butt off, swapping lies and
wearing red and hoping this tinder dry summer hasn't damaged the deer herd
irreversibly. The U. S. Forest Service is praying that someone's cat
converter isn't setting a fire in the weeds. The BLM is doing much the same
while their people are doing their best to warn about the fire danger and
everyone who lives in canyon areas is hoping to come through the hunt
without them or their livestock being damaged.
There's nothing I enjoy better than a venison roast but this year isn't the
year to try to get one. It's just too tinder dry out there.
I'd recommend your getting reservations at your favorite spot because
Wendover will be standing room only on Friday and Saturday nights, Oct 18
and 19.
