I'm ready to torque down the heads on my SBC and just realized that the book
I'm using might not have the correct info I need. It says 60-70 lbs, with a
footnote for BB motors with four bolt mains that on those, the the outers get
65 lbs and the inners get 115 lbs. My book is a 1972 issue, so I'm not even
sure they had four bolt small blocks then, which is what I have. I did notice
that after only two runs last fall, when I pulled the heads there was a spot on
the head gasket that was already getting a little discolored. Of course, that
could have been a warped head, which, if it was, Tom has fixed for me. Do four
bolt small blocks get different head bolt torquing? Do "built" motors get more
torque than stockers?
Here's what I got: SBC, block originally from 1982 1 ton truck, four bolt
mains, Stock crank, flat top cast pistons, Sarda re-worked 882 heads, Crane cam
with solid lifters, roller rockers, crane rocker stud girdle. I redline it at
6250 RPM (but might get crazy and try 6500 once this year). What should I use
for head bolt torque specs?

PS. Don't go trying to report me to the American Medical Association. My
doctor would die if he thought I was going to try and torque down a set of
heads. My next door neighbor is going to do the acutal wrench pulling for me.
