Keith, here's something I know a little bit about. A friend of mine a long
time ago had a 4 made out of an 8, he removed 4 pistons from one side of a
chev V-8 and installed counter weights of the same weight as the pistons and
rods. It worked pretty god, had a LOT of vibration, etc. He just removed the
rocker arms on these cylinders. A Jake Brake explaination can be found at a
www. jacobsengineering.com or some such website. It is an electromagnetic
device that holds open the exhaust valves a little to prevent combustion in a
Diesel but allows the compression to cause a braking effect. You would be
better off to destroke an engine or select a smaller engine than mess with
this stuff.

I had this question put to me and I honestly don't know the right answer....
it did prove to be extreamly thought provoking thou.

If you intended up front to run a V-8 on 7 cylinders how exactly would you
do it?

Why you say..... well how bout it moves you down a class..... and keep in
mind there is nothing sacred in the motor.... you could take out the piston
and counter weight it? or could you? you can simply pull the spark plug
wire? leave the spark plug out?

And if you did that would it act like a compression release? Speaking of
which ..... just exactly How does a Jake Brake work? or a Two Stroke
compression release.

Now there is some silly fuel for thought

Keith ( why yes I'm just stirring the pot )
