Thanks to you that responded.

I changed plugs and started it up. It definitely wasn't running right
so I got out my stethoscope and was most surprised to hear broken Morse
code, tapping away once in a while under the right side valve cover.

Sure enough, cyl #2 exhaust valve rocker was laying at the bottom of
the head rail as a result of a broken rocker stud. Cyl #4 exhaust
adjusting nut was on by about two turns by hand and the intake pushrod was
in the shape of a pretzel.

I wonder just when it went.

I assumed it was all in the plugs that never cleared up from the
start. I backed off when I heard some solid knocking. I've heard
spun rod bearings before and this sounded and felt just like it but I also
was sure it was the drive line. There was probably serious detonation
going on as it was intermittent but oil pressure was good as was temp. I
had a multitude of problems going on at 140 mph. Nonetheless, it was a
prudent thing to do by backing off and pulling over.

Later,

GH
