Group, I was very surprised at all those recent problems with the
Firestones on the SUVs, as over the years I have had Firestones on many of my
cars, from my flathead Fords in the 50s, and on thru a bunch of Chevs in
the 60s,
where they saw some very hard service ...... and never had any problems
except a shortened life span, which was my fault, NOT the tire's . Those
big Firestone 8.20 / 15s worked well on the street, and helped ( slightly )
on
mileage and engine life ( not really my main concern back then ) when running
5.57 and 5.14 gears ....... I would have readily tried Firestone slicks for
the strip, had they been available, but M & Hs worked out very well .
Bruce, sitting here thinking back on what fun it was to be young
and foolish ...... and also recalling what some of our local roundy round guys
thought of Bridgestone slicks on their modifieds ..... I learned words I' d
never
heard !!! The air was not blue from tire smoke ...... but from their
colorful
language !
