Hi Folks, Thought you would like to hear how Ardun Doug's new blown
Ardun dragster went on it's first shakedown trials last weekend. Cheers

<< Hi Doug, never saw any report on how you and Brian made out with the
test and tune this weekend. How'd things work out? Cheers Bill

Bill,
I made a pass fresh off the trailer at 10.2/132 using a .010 leaner pill
than Gene Adams recommended. Then I leaned it another .010 and Brian made a
pass. It started to nose-over at the 1/8 so he clicked it. I then went back
to Adams recommended .130 setup and Bri ran a 9.6/144, carrying the front
wheels out of the hole. It turned out that he accidentally made a high gear
run, forgetting to put the tranny in second after the burnout.
We then developed a fuel leak at the bypass/shutoff valve and trailered
it for the day.
All in all it was a good day. The thing sounds and feels really strong,
we didn't break anything, and we're getting closer on the tuneup. The blower
boost gauge check valve wasn't working, so we had to sneak a peek at the
instrument on the way down the 1/4 mile. Bri saw 21lbs on the last pass.
Today I fired it on gas, warmed it up, dropped the oil, and checked the
cranking compression and leakdown. The cranking compression was 125-135 psi
(312 deg. cam at .020" lift and 275 deg. at .050" lift with 8:1 pistons and a
3 5/16" X 3 3/4" engine) and the leakdown was 2% to 8%.
I'll pull the oil filter tomorrow. If it looks OK we'll fix the blower
boost gauge, put new "O" rings in the shutoff/bypass valve, and go bact to a
test session in early December.
El Mirage is in 12 days so I'd better finish the MR. I got the fire
bottles weighed today and put most of the body panels back on. I still have
to change back to the nitro QC gears and change the tuneup. I was going to
run fuel class on Saturday and gas class on Sunday but SCTA Dry Lakes rules
prohibit doing that. We'll run the gas class at the May Lakes meet when I
have the closer ratio gears in the C-4, then think about putting the blower
motor in the MR..........Doug
