Wow, does that bring back memories. Years ago I
had a nice little street rod, louvered hood and
all, and it was powered by a little Dodge 241
hemi. It was a fine looking car and sounded
really great. My younger brother had a hot rod
Corvair, and I used to always tease him about
having three quarters of a motor in the wrong end
of the car. He was into bazillion watt sounds,
and got a copy of a tape called "Sounds of
Sebring" somewhere. He did some editing, and had
sounds of a Ferrari revving up through the gears
and at speed. When he'd leave the local drive-in
and turn into the darkness at the first corner,
he'd turn that thing on full blast. It sounded
for all the world like he was winding up to about
twelve grand and hitting about 160 in a couple of
blocks. Then he'd slowly drive away in the
darkness. Within a few short weeks, nobody
talked about my car anymore, unless it was to ask
me how it felt to have my kid brother blowing me
off the road like that! His Corvair is still a
legend in our little home town - amazing how many
guys, to this day, believed that it was really
his Corvair making that sound!
