Greeting and salutations, Dave Parks and Tom Bryant.....

Dave, we have mutual friends that we dine with occasionally....last
time you and I ate with them was at the KOA in Wendover, August of 1998
-we had Burritos and beer Remember? Of course I'm talking about our
friends the Bean Bandits...

Tom we've never really met, but I've seen you run numerous times...I
was one of the guys on the starting ilne with the look of sheer envy on his
face...!
BTW; I've got a small but good bit of video I shot of you leaving the
line at Speedweek 40 in 1988 in your "old" car if you don't... If you'd
like me to, I could probably br convinced to make you a copy of it....it
runs from your startup on the line till you almost go out of hearing if I
remember correctly. Sounds pert dam good too if I recall.....

To answer you both ever so briefly; Yes Dave you'r right about the lack
of good air flow while sitting still and that would definitely contribute to
the heat. -But Tom suggested something that is a very good point about the
possible retarded timing- (though mine was set at 38 degrees total) as far
as carbs, I made my own from nasty, grungy ol' cores of 2gc rottenchesters.
My manifold is an Offenhauser 3 deuce, and the front and rear carbs have the
idle circuits totally plugged off with threaded screws in all the orfices.
However at startup I had those spots blanked off with block off plates I'd
made for the purpose and had'er runnin' on just the center 2bbl- my goal of
course, was only a 1/2 hour break-in run at low to medium RPM so that was
plenty

My progressive linkage is all "homegrown" using the same 1/4 heims left over
from the Edelbrock TR1X tunnelram off my E/MP drag motor from 1972...and 1/4
Aluminum round stock whick I bent to the curve of the arc of the swing of
the center carby, so as to eliminate any trace of BIND in the throw- works
like a champ.
I even made progressive springs so when on 1 carb it's only using 1
spring, and with all open, its "Feel" at the pedal is stiffer 'cause it's
on 2 springs! Real proud of that-took me quite a lot of playing around to
get it "Just right"

Enough jabber fellas, I gotta get back to my CADD designing class here
at the College!

I sure enjoy and learn a lot from all the cultural interchange here on this
list- there's an INCREDIBLE amount of knowledge here.
I've been playing "Car" for 30-40 years now and allas learn somthing new
here! Ever'body keep on keepin' on OK?

-my best regards ot you all....
Doug Anderson, in "exile" in New Yawk

PS; David, how's your Dad doing?
